The calm you deserve on your best day ever

After months of planning every beautiful detail, your wedding day finally arrives. The florals are in full bloom, the light is soft, and the love of your life is standing just a breath away. You’ve done the work. Now it’s time to be fully present for it.

It’s easy to slip into checklist mode when there’s so much happening, but the best photos happen when you feel grounded, connected, and present. As your photographer, my job is to help you stay that way—not just to capture what the day looked like but how it felt to live it.

1. Build space into your timeline so you can stay present

One of the biggest reasons couples feel rushed on their wedding day is a packed timeline. Adding even 10-15 minutes of buffer time between events can make a huge difference.

Whether you’re planning a first look, a quiet moment together after the ceremony, or sunset portraits in the Black Hills, those little pauses are where the magic happens.

Pro tip: Start your ceremony about an hour and a half before sunset. It gives you dreamy light for portraits and space to breathe before your reception begins. A great way to know when sunset will be on your wedding date is through this website.

2. Let your photographer handle the details

You don’t need to think about where to stand, how to pose, or what’s next on the schedule. That’s my job. From our planning calls to your engagement session, we’ll build trust so that by the time your wedding day arrives, it feels like spending the day with a friend who happens to have a camera in hand.

When you can release control and just live in the moment, your photos will feel natural, effortless, and full of emotion.

3. Plan for calm, not perfection

Things rarely go exactly according to plan, and that’s okay. The unexpected moments often turn out to be the most memorable. Your dad’s teary first look, your friends laughing during portraits, or the way your veil catches the wind at sunset.

Instead of striving for perfection, aim for presence. If something runs a few minutes behind, trust that your vendor team has you covered. You’ll look back and remember the laughter, the love, and the joy, not the schedule.

4. Protect your quiet moments and stay present together

It’s easy for the day to fly by in a blur of hugs, photos, and celebration. Intentionally carving out moments for just the two of you, like a private first look, a slow walk after the ceremony, or even five minutes at sunset, can help you soak it all in.

These pauses give you time to breathe, reconnect, and remember what the day is really about: the two of you, starting forever together.

5. Trust the process

When your gallery arrives, you’ll relive every moment, the joy, the warmth, the love that filled your day. You’ll see the details you carefully planned, the people who mean the most to you, and the in-between moments you didn’t even realize were happening.

That’s the beauty of being fully present. You get to live your wedding day and see it again through photos that feel honest, elegant, and true to you.
