There’s something magical about the Black Hills in the fall—especially when you have the kindest couple in front of your lens. I had the sweetest time with Mercades and Josh during their engagement session, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful afternoon to explore two of my favorite spots in Rapid City: Falling Rock and Graffiti Rock.

A Fall Afternoon at Falling Rock
We started the evening at Falling Rock, where the sun peeked through the pines just enough to wrap them in that soft, golden glow. Mercades and Josh have this calm, joyful energy that made the whole shoot feel like hanging out with old friends.
Golden Light + Genuine Laughs
As we wandered from one spot to the next, they were laughing, sharing little moments, and taking in the views together.

Graffiti Rock Views
Not far from Falling Rock is Graffiti Rock—just across the canyon. It’s one of those spots that feels tucked away, like a hidden gem you’d only stumble across if you knew where to look.
Across the Canyon: A Favorite Shot
We wandered over and ended the session with one of my favorite shots: Mercades and Josh standing across the canyon while I photographed them from Falling Rock. It’s always such a cool perspective, and it felt like the perfect way to wrap up our time together.

A Perfect Weekend Finale
After the shoot, these two headed out for dinner with some friends—they’re from Eastern South Dakota and had made the trip out for a fun weekend, so it was extra special to be part of that. Their session was such a great way to end my weekend too: relaxed, full of laughs, and with a couple who clearly adore each other.
Thank You
Mercades and Josh, thank you for trusting me to document this part of your story. I can’t to celebrate your wedding day with you!
